North America’s Frontman, Bjergsen!
Søren Bjerg, known by his in-game alias “Bjergsen”, is considered one of the most gifted mid laners in the League of Legends esports scene. At one point in his career, Bjergsen was talked of as the next Faker. Bjergsen is known as a dominant 1v1 and teamfight player. Many individuals closely involved with the competitive LoL scene have said that he has a keen ability to predict and outplay his opponent.
Søren began his career in the European LCS during Season 3 playing for Copenhagen Wolves. The Wolves were bought during the break between spring and summer split. They were bought by Ninjas in Pyjamas, a large professional eSports organization. During his time with NiP, Søren proved that he had the capacity to carry a team and win his lane against the best in Europe. After season 3, Søren received offers from several teams in both Europe and North America. On November 2nd of 2013, Bjergsen accepted an offer made by Team SoloMid. During his time on TSM, Søren has played with many teammates as the roster underwent a slew of personnel changes. He won the NA LCS in season 4 and has attended the last two World Championships. In the 2014 World Championship, Bjergsen and TSM reached the quarter-finals where they were defeated by Samsung White. The 2015 World Championship was a disaster for TSM, and caused a complete roster reset except for Bjergsen, as they recorded 1 win and 5 losses during the group stage. The current roster that TSM bolsters is said to be the greatest iteration yet.
The data from Bjergsen’s Season 5 Summer Split shows his ability to dominate the game, especially his midlane matchup. Let’s take a look at the data mapping.
The data mapping shows some interesting dynamics in regards to Bjergsen’s play. The LCS analysts have said many times that Bjergsen is a very consistent and lane dominant player. When looking at Søren’s blue side, it is very noticeable that he dominates the laning phase. But, on red side the data shows that Bjergsen is more liable to over aggress and make a mistake while doing so. The data also shows that TSM enjoys skirmishing. Because of the passive play style that TSM used during the summer split there is less data than usual and the kills around dragon are when TSM caught an opponent out of position or finally had the nerve to contest dragon. Bjergsen does suffer from inconsistency in his decision-making and positioning. Though Søren’s typically a top tier mid laner, at times, especially in high pressure situation, he is viable to make poor decisions and have poor positioning. Bjergsen is still one of the best in the game, but having him also fulfill the role of shotcaller has a direct negative influence on the quality of his in-game play. The new TSM roster remedies this issue by no longer making him the primary caller. This allows for the Bjergerking to re-focus on his mechanical prowess and micro-precision gameplay, thus allowing him to return to his playmaking ways and laning phase dominance.
