TBQ: Hit-or-Miss

by | January 11th, 2016

During the group stage of the World Championship 2015, LGD showed poor performance over multiple games. There was talk of nerves and communication breakdown, but mostly the conversation led to the caliber of athletes that played for LGD at the time. Unsurprisingly a scapegoat was used, and much of the blame for LGD’s lackluster performance was directed towards TBQ. The analysts and casters said that during the regular season TBQ showed signs of inconsistency and moderate mechanical prowess, unless he is playing on Lee Sin.

If we look at TBQ’s Summer Split in the LPL, we can confirm his inconsistency in decision-making, and mechanics. This is only one of the effects from the real disease. But first, let’s take a look at TBQ’s data mapping, and go from there.

In the data mapping, we noticed that TBQ shows signs of poor decision-making and inconsistent mechanics. TBQ does not have poor mechanics because he has, on occasion, been the primary factor as to why LGD won games. He has a very limited champion pool and based on the locations of where he dies also has communication and synergy issues with his former teammates. He plays more of a support style and has sub-efficient jungle pathing, which can be exploited by other junglers. He also didn’t synchronize well with Pyl in roaming for most of their matches.

As we watched footage and collected data, we noticed that there were greater issues across the entirety of the LPL. The issues stem from a lack of diligence, primarily in strategy, decision-making, and positioning. Thus causing teams to have the appearance of playing haphazardly. At this time, we are uncertain as to what was the root cause of this volatile change in the LPL.

As for TBQ, if he desires to play for another professional organization, it would be in his best interest to increase his mechanical precision and broaden his champion pool. He is currently a niche-style jungler, and has the capacity of being a great player if paired with suitable teammates and having a coach consistently helping him improve.
