Carrying from the Top Lane

by | Dec 4, 2015

Since MaRin’s arrival to SKT we have seen him emerge as one of the best top laners in the game. The data we collected from the Summer Season for MaRin, in the LCK, was very interesting. He was the definitive carry for SKT. His ability to turn teamfights is staggering. He has stellar decision making and positioning. Thus, he typically is very precise with his teleport. The data we collected shows that MaRin has many strengths and, surprisingly, a few weaknesses.

Take a peak..

From this data we can see that MaRin is very susceptible in lane to being bullied by other top tier laners and also from being ganked (all those purple dots). You will also notice that SKT also like to pile into the bottom lane create a lead for Bang. MaRin breaks even 1v1 fighting during laning phase. The strength of MaRin is teamfighting. He has great decision making and doesn’t blow summoner spells or abilities on a whim. This was all especially made evident just recently at Worlds while playing Fiora and facing up against H2K. He could have re-used his riposte ability for several instances, but he waited until Ryu tried to all-in.

Important Note: SKT has a preference to fight in the red jungle. They do not focus on fighting in blue jungle.

It is uncertain as to which team MaRin will play for next. But, one thing is certain, they will have one of the best top laners money can offer.
