An eFormal Introduction
The impressive growth surrounding the esports community has created a large ripple in global news over the past several months, coupled with the rapid passing of the League of Legends World Championships has us abuzz here at Deku. I am excited to announce that I will be launching my site ahead of schedule!
I strongly believe that for the world of esports to become a stable, growing market then there must be more firms that involve themselves within esports. I commend companies like that of Twitch which has made a platform for those interested in the casual and competitive level so as to make gamer interaction and viewership more accessible and user-friendly. I commend Riot Games for creating, maintaining, and promoting competitive leagues for their game, League of Legends. Their model is excellent, and one that other games can, and should even consider, adopting. We also are impressed and praise companies like that of Intel, Coca-Cola, Turner Broadcasting, and ESPN that are helping create a stable and thriving future for the esports market.
In data analysis it is important to “keep the data clean”. It is easy for casters and players that are closely involved in their respective games to gain a biased opinion and thus diminish the validity of the statements they make, unless it is backed by unbiased data. This is a major reason as to why it is important to have more data on players than just their KDA (Kill Death Assist) Ratio, damage per minute, and other basic metrics related to the specific games. There is a trove of rich data within the realm of professional gaming, especially in regards to League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and DOTA2. Here at Deku Data Labs, I guarantee that there will be no bias in the data that is presented.
TL;DR – Data + Esports = Love = Life
